Are people who own sex dolls creepy?

When some people think of sex dolls, they think of the stories that they have seen in the media about people who exhibit what’s classified as “strange behaviour” when it comes to their blow up companion. People also assume that it’s only men who own and enjoy sex dolls, but there are a wide range of sex doll options out there for women too, and quite rightly so. Through a mix of negative media attention and a societal stigma which seems to be attached to sex doll ownership, people often won’t admit that they own one for fear of being accused of being “creepy”. In Britain in particular we are still very old fashioned at times in the way we think about sex and using additional items in the bedroom. We can just about accept women using vibrators and men and women watching pornography, and maybe we can get our heads around a bit of light bondage, especially since the success of Fifty Shade of Grey. However, anything over and above that is frowned up, or even seen as strange. The question is why? Why does a man or woman owning and enjoying a sex doll suddenly amount to being “creepy”? It’s probably due to a lack of understanding overall, sex dolls are simply pure enjoyment and self-indulgence for the majority of owners. However, the structure of our society is changing, more people are, through choice or otherwise, single in the UK. In fact, according to Metro in March 2013, the number of people living on their own has almost doubled over the last 40 years. In 2011 16% of the population in Britain lived alone, and that percentage is ever increasing. Just because you are single doesn’t mean that you don’t have needs, and how you satisfy those urges is completely up to you. You could find a friend with benefits, pick someone up on a night out, or play it extra safe when it comes to sex and invest in a sex doll. Not only do you eliminate the risk of pregnancy or contracting an STI, but you also have sex on tap and you don’t need to worry about satisfying your partner (come on, we all want that at some time!) As the number of singles and people living alone increases, so too will the need to find ways to satisfy those sexual urges safely and enjoyably. We hope that it’s not too long before we lighten up in the UK and see solo sex for both men and women as an enjoyable method of self-care. Plus practicing with a sex doll can only make you better when you get a real man or woman between your sheets! Do you own a sex doll?
